click for moreI have a lot of Batman action figures, none of which Oscar will be allowed to play with until he’s 4… or older, even. There’s lots of little pieces, and the figures will become irreplacable in the future. However I love Batman and hope that Oscar shares my enthusiasm for the Caped Crusader. So to get him started, I got Mattel’s DC Superheroes… big chunky action figures for little hands.

click for moreI picked up Superman, Flash, and Batman. Each figure has a posable head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hips (to sitting position). Mattel removed some of the more common joints to increase durability, and simplify the overall look.
Yes, the Dark Knight looks like a crossing guard, but you gotta admit, it’s pretty cute.

The accessories are interesting. Batman comes with a Batarang launcher, you pound down on it to shoot off a Batarang. There is a peg (is it a handle?) In the way that prevents the Batarang from shooting straight or very far. I guess it’s a safety measure. Flash has a smokin’ wheel base he plugs into (all of these figures have pegholes on their feet). Pound on the pump to send him crusing. (works better on a hard surface). And Supes comes with a brick wall that explodes (into 3 pieces) when you press down on the base. It actually pops apart in a cool manner.

The spikes on Batman are a softer rubber, so your little one should be able to have fun without too much caution. Two things… A) They are a bit on the heavy side, so make sure your kid is not in the “lob stuff at my sister and/or cat” phase. and B) The joints are a little tight when you first open it. So flex each joint a few times before handing it off to your junior crime solver.

There is also an Aquaman, Lex Luthor and Green Lantern in the bunch, as well as a sweet Batmobile coming our way.

Check out our large photo gallery with tons more pictures including pics of figures shown at the 2007 Toy Fair.
