Splash Down!

My son and I were excited to hear about the new NASA Orion capsule. This is the vehicle our astronauts will be using in a few years to return safely from trips to Mars and the Moon! I recently picked up the Playmobil Rescue Raft (5545) from Toys R Us. I decided to mod it to look like the new capsule. Check out my pics below, including a link to download a set of decals to make your own Orion capsule!

Glitter and Gold Mickey

Feld Entertainment, Inc., the worldwide leader in family entertainment, announces that its 34th Disney On Ice spectacular will bring to life the Academy Award®-winning and number one animated feature film of all time, Disney’s Frozen, in Fairfax from October 22 – 27 at the Patriot Center.

Tickets are on sale now for all 13 shows, including a new show added on Monday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m., an addition to the previously announced Fairfax schedule.

The Academy Award®-winning tale will be told live for the first time in this production, capturing the dynamic between two royal sisters, Anna and Elsa. Anna, a girl with an extraordinary heart, embarks on an epic journey to find her sister, the magical Elsa, who is determined to remain secluded as she finally feels free to test the limits of her powers. Rugged mountain man Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, the lovable and hilarious snowman Olaf and the mystical trolls help Anna along the way in this story about love conquering fear. Audiences will get to sing along with such musical masterpieces as “Let it Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Fixer Upper.”

Red Skull and Capt America face off

I took the family to witness Marvel Universe Live at the Verizon Center on Sunday afternoon, and it was epic! The comic pages come to life as your favorite Marvel heroes battle it out with special effects and lots of action. I’m a fan of Feld productions, such as Ringling Bros Circus, Disney on Ice, and of course Monster Jam. But this event was unlike anything I’d ever seen. If you have a kid, or any fan of the Marvel Universe, you need to experience it like this.

The all terrain Air Hogs Hypertrax battles out against the flippable Hyper Actives 5, watch our video to see which ones our testers preferred.

The Hypertrax features all-terrain treads to get over almost any obstacle, and a slim enough body that if it ends up upside-down, it can keep going. For young, inexperienced RC drivers, this car is perfect for just zipping around and getting used to steering. I like that the remote and charger are self-contained, however I have found that because the AA batteries are charging the car and the remote, it drains quickly. It takes a little over 20 minutes to charge up the vehicle, and then it drives for about 10 minutes.

The Hyper Actives 5 features a motorized wheel on top, assisting in any flip-overs. It has a bit more power (and it’s own AA powersource) so it’s going to win races, but it works best on asphalt or other smooth surfaces, it got a little hung up in the grass.

The circus opened up at Verizon Center last night in Washington DC, and it was a blast. This year’s edition “Built to Amaze” featured construction and paint themes and clowning around, and lots of tumbling and acrobatics. Check it out!
