Elsa

Last night we took our favorite princess and her mom to the premiere night of Disney on Ice: Frozen at the Patriot Center outside of DC. The production had everything you’d come to expect from the Feld family, and everyone was singing on their way out. Click for more pics and info!

Double guns!

The show kicked off with Mickey and Friends talking about the great love stories, and had a few cameos from Buzz Lightyear, Nemo, Pumbaa and a few others… but once Elsa, Anna, and Olaf took over, it was Frozen all over. I could sum it up as a live-action retelling of the movie, song by song. All your little ones’ favorites were there from Wanna Build a Snowman, to Love is an open door!, and Fixxer-Upper. The only thing I couldn’t believe was that they didn’t do Let it Go!. You would think they’d really highlight that one. I’m kidding. They did that one like 3 times. I wanted to give one of my readers a heart attack. Even the security guys were singing and dancing to Let it Go. Our princess, in Elsa dress of course, sang and danced and twirled the whole song.

Singing along with Elsa

The very last Feld production we went to was Marvel Universe Live, which had tons of pyrotechnics, motorcycle stunts, and high-wire work. There was decidedly less over-the-top effects utilized for Frozen, but it was appropriately scaled. There were snowflake effects, and the occasional, lightning bolt, but the focus was clearly on the music. And it paid off.

Run Olaf!

My favorite element was the giant Marshmallow snow monster. Some of the princesses in the audience knew when he was coming and decided to hide until he was gone, but he wasn’t too frightening. Mostly he said “GO AWAY” instead of something like “I’M GOING TO GET YOU!” I’d like to get one for my lawn for the holidays, and maybe it’ll keep some of those kids off my lawn.

Summer!!!

Of all the On Ice shows, this is the most fitting, regarding the subject matter. It seemed a perfect fit. It was a great production, and if anyone in your house loves Frozen, they will absolutely flip out at the live production. It’s everything you’re expecting.
