I’ve been to Hasbro’s showroom many times in the past, mainly to check out their collectable figures, such as Transformers, Star Wars, and GI Joe. But this year I had the added treat of touring their toys for young children, and I find myself instilled with a similar awe and excitement. My son is only six months old, but I can’t wait until he’s able to play with some of this stuff. Here are my favorites:

Kota the Triceratops is one of my favorite things from the whole show. Based on the idea of Butterscotch the horse, here is an animatronic dinosaur that your child can sit on and interact with. He doesn’t walk around, but he sniffs your hand, plays music, when you sit on him he makes stomping noise. Be sure to see the video of him in action in our Toy Fair video podcast.

Clipo is a new building block system intended for young builders. The pieces are a soft plastic that’s quasi-flexible, so they won’t pinch, or hurt when tossed. They fit together in a variety of combinations, and I have to admit that the adults have all been playing with the samples I picked up. There are face pieces and building bases as well.

RC Bounce Back Racer is a great introductory Radio Control car. It’s remote features only two buttons, for little hands, and if it were to flip over, it continues to operate while on it’s back. This is featured in the Video Podcastas well.

It’s not my experience to cover the girly toys, but I won’t alienate half my audience. The Sweet Lily Castle is a large play tent that opens up for princess play, and has add-on rooms that zipper to it, including a bedroom (with Vanity) and a market.

Ponyville – My Little Pony is going strong even on their 25th anniversary. There are traditional toys, small figures with a town play set, and a few interactive ponies this year.

There’s even more ponies and toys for girls in the photo gallery. As well as pics of the internet-voted S’Mores the pony, and Biscuit the dog.

The NERF N-STRIKE is another fave, it’s a game for your Wii that comes with a working NERF pistol. Pop out the firing mechanism and pop in your Wii-mote, and shoot at targets on the screen, using the NERF Pistol. From EA and Hasbro, this one is due in the fall.

Speaking of NERF, check out our video of the Vulcan EBF-25 We got a taste of the chain fed motorized Nerf blaster from American Gladiator Titan himself.

The Glide 2 Ride bike is an alternative to training wheels. The bike is lower to the ground and has no pedals, to assist the child in learning balance. As they grow, add the pedals and raise the seat. Available in boy and girl colors.

The Noodleboro line of games and activities helps parents teach manners and appropriate behavior. There’s a CD for the car, and a whole line of things to do with your child to raise a well-rounded individual.

Whew, there’re more photos in the image gallery, and a lot of demonstrations in the video podcast. You can also check out their official site, Hasbro.com for more information.
