Mattel/Fisher-Price had some of the most talked about toys this year. Besides the ImagiNEXT line incorporating Batman and this sweet Batcave (right), there were more Pixar’s Cars, the living D-Rex, Speed Racer and of course, Elmo Live. Here’s what I liked:

The following are also demonstrated in the 2008 Toy Fair video podcast.
D-Rex is an advanced interactive pet. Looking like a “cute” dinosaur, the D-Rex responds to you playing with him, and develops the more your play. He’s not remote controlled, but he comes with a bone controller that helps you pick which “mode” you him to be in. There’s playful, agressive, room guard, and peaceful (I think). D-Rex is going to retail for $150 this fall.

For the younger set there’s the Go Diego Go interactive Train. The track is extremely flexible, so you can place it in any configuration, even “speed bumps.” It interacts with sound bytes and music from the show. This set is for ages 3 and up, and retails for $50.

The Give Me Five Sports Station gate hosts football, soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey scoring all in one piece. This is suitable for indoors or out. For Ages 3-9, retailing for $120.

The Planetary Heroes are back, and this time are sporting a sweet rocket base. The familiar characters are being produced on a slightly smaller scale to interact with this playset and new vehicles. Hmmmm, Uri from Uranus is conspicuously missing! I love Uranus! Anyway, I reall enjoy the theme of action figures based on the planets, and their play that encourages learning. The base will retail for $45, and is for ages 3-8.

Elmo Live (seen at the end of the video, was one of the most impressive toys at Toy Fair. This Elmo sits and stands, dances, sings and tells stories. The cool part is that his mouth and head move very convincingly, like he was a puppet. He’s loaded with lots of stories and songs, and will be quite entertainging for hours. It’ll make you say TMX-what? He’ll retail for $60 this fall.

Check out the photo gallery of more toys we saw from Fisher-Price and Mattel.
Be sure to see video of these toys in the 2008 Toy Fair video podcast.
